Why is applying for jobs so much retyping?
Because every application asks the same twenty questions and none of them share an answer.
Your name, email, phone and address. The same three jobs with the same three date ranges, entered one field at a time. Work authorization. Notice period. Where you heard about the role. Then the resume upload, which for some reason often wants you to also type the resume you just uploaded. Twelve minutes, minimum, before you reach a question that has anything to do with whether you can do the job.
The cost is not really the twelve minutes. It is what the twelve minutes do to your judgement. By the fourth application of the evening you are picking roles by how short the form looks, skipping the ones on Workday, and attaching whatever resume is nearest rather than the one you tailored. The friction does not just slow the hunt down. It quietly changes which jobs you apply to.

The JobShifu panel appears on the page. It reads the form in front of it, including forms embedded from another domain in an iframe, which is how a surprising number of company careers pages are actually built.

Contact details, work history, education, authorization and the rest come from the profile you built once. Fields it cannot confidently identify are left alone rather than filled with a guess, because a wrong answer in an application is worse than a blank one.

If you tailored a resume for this job, that version is pre-selected. The document you actually worked on is the one that goes, instead of whatever was last in your downloads folder.

What about screening questions?
They are answered from your record, not invented to fit.
Screening questions are where a lot of automated applying quietly goes wrong. Asked "how many years of Kubernetes experience do you have," a tool optimizing for getting through the form has an obvious incentive to answer whatever the job asked for. That answer then contradicts the resume attached to the same application, which is a bad way to meet a recruiter.
JobShifu draws answers from the same confirmed profile your resume is built from, so the two agree by construction. When a question has no answer in your record, it leaves the field for you instead of filling it.

Answers and resume come from one source, so an application never contradicts the document attached to it.
Demographic questions are never guessed
Voluntary EEO and demographic fields are never inferred from your profile. They are yours to answer or decline, and nothing else in your data is treated as permission to fill them in.

Where does it work?
Out of the box the panel runs on more than 25 applicant tracking platforms, plus LinkedIn and Indeed. Field detection is generic, so an ordinary application form works anywhere the extension is allowed to run.
On top of that, a smaller set gets specific handling, because their forms are built unusually enough that generic detection is not sufficient on its own:
- Workday, including its multi-step flows and prompt-driven dropdowns
- Greenhouse, including boards embedded inside a company careers page
- Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and Jobvite
- iCIMS, Taleo, BambooHR and SuccessFactors
The other platforms the panel runs on, Workable, Recruitee, Breezy, Teamtailor, Personio, JazzHR, Eightfold, Rippling, Paylocity, Oracle Cloud and the rest, are handled by the generic detection rather than by special-casing. That is a difference in how the form is read, not in whether it fills.
One honest caveat about coverage
A browser extension can only read pages you have allowed it to read. Out of the box JobShifu runs on the job sites it knows. Running on any application form, including the one-off careers page on a company's own domain, needs a broader permission that only you can grant, from the extension's options page.
It is optional, it is genuinely off until you turn it on, and the extension will tell you when it is running somewhere it cannot help. We would rather say this on the page than have you discover it on a form that does not fill.
How is this different from a browser password manager?
A password manager knows your name and address. It does not know which of your six resume versions belongs on this application.

The last row is the one that compounds. Because the extension knows which job you are applying to, the application lands in your tracker without you logging it, which means the follow-up you meant to send in a week actually gets sent.
Frequently asked questions
Does JobShifu submit applications for me?
No. JobShifu fills the form and stops. Every field is on screen for you to read and change before anything happens, and pressing Submit is always your action.
This is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature. An application sent without you reading it is an application you cannot follow up on, cannot correct, and may not even remember making.
Which job sites and ATS platforms does the autofill work on?

Answers are drawn from your confirmed profile and Vault, the same source your resume is built from, so the answer you give in an application matches the resume attached to it. When a question has no answer in your profile, JobShifu leaves it for you rather than guessing.
Demographic and voluntary EEO questions are never inferred or filled from anything. Those are yours to answer or decline, and no amount of profile data is treated as permission to guess at them.
Does it attach the right resume automatically?
Yes. If you tailored a resume for this job, the panel pre-selects that version, so the document you spent the evening on is the one that gets attached instead of whatever was last in your downloads folder.
If you pick a different document, JobShifu keeps your choice and will not override it.
Why does the extension ask for permission to run on all sites?
Because job applications are not hosted anywhere predictable. A single application can start on a company careers page, hand off to an ATS on a different domain, and embed a third form in an iframe from a fourth. The extension cannot fill a form on a page it is not allowed to read.
Broad coverage is optional and off until you grant it from the extension's options page, and JobShifu still works on the platforms it knows without it.
